We’re doing the Indigo Dye Workshop from 9-2

WORKSHOP: Dyeing to Knit the Blues!
Discover the magic of indigo, nature’s most soulful blue as you dye yarn for your own textile creations! We will be hosting local dyer Jan Quarles on Saturday, April 27th from 9 -2 for an indigo dye class. You’ll learn about the history of this magic blue and prepare and dye your own yarn for a project.  Drinks will be provided, you can either bring a sack lunch or pre-order a boxed lunch from Sweet T’s (about $8).
Cost for the workshop is $95 per person and includes: instruction, class handouts, gloves, all dying supplies, and one skein of Merino fingering weight sock yarn. Additional sock yarn … fingering weight skeins, mini skeins and sock blanks … will be available for purchase throughout the day. Class is limited to 12, and you must prepay to reserve your spot (we currently have 6 spaces remaining). Stop by or call the shop to register … 615.952.0110, or message us here with your phone number, we’ll call you back quick as we can!

Dear Friends –

The Lebanon library has asked us about crochet classes.  A good day and time for them is Thursday at 1 or 2 pm.  If you can help with these classes please let me know.  kandctn@gmail.com

We have been busy this past week with library classes.  Crochet was taught at Edmondson, Inglewood and Richland Park.  Knitting was taught at Bellevue and Brentwood.  There were close to 50 students and most classes had a waiting list!  Thanks to all of the instructors who teach these classes.

And here is another thank you from one of our donors.

Good Afternoon Deborah,

I hope this email finds you well.  On behalf of Richland Head Start, I wanted to extend the most sincerest thank you for your donation of knithats.  Our children and families will greatly appreciate these creative hats.  We would love to continue a partnership with Knit and CrochetTennessee if possible. Again, thank you.

A quick knit with a pattern
that is super easy to memorize!

Dear Friends –
Why is The Big Stitch on the 1st Saturday in April instead of the 2nd Saturday?  Good question!  Our April event will move to another Saturday from time to time due to whenever Easter is.  All the other months, January, July and October will take place the 2nd Saturday.
I’ve had some questions about the Crochet 103 classes we plan to offer at our library classes and at The Big Stitch.  103 will teach crocheting in the round, granny squares and specialty stitches.
I am working with Ms Cheap on an article about FREE knitting and crochet classes in the area.  I am sharing with her all of our library classes as well as classes the library holds themselves at Mt. Juliet, LaVergne, Kingston Springs and Murfreesboro.  If you know of FREE classes taught anywhere else please let me know asap.  We are close to the deadline!  I’m hoping to add area groups too and I know they are not up to date on our site.  Please take a minute and review what I have and let me know what needs to be added, deleted or updated – even if you’ve given me this info before!! https://knitandcrochettn.org/maps-locations/

CHASE THE CHILL – SATURDAY, JANUARY 26
NEW DATE!
Chase The Chill

Chase The Chill is an annual graffiti/yarn bombing event that distributes handmade scarves in public places so that those in need -regardless of income and without any qualifiers -can help themselves. Founded in 2008 in Easton, PA, Chase the Chill combines art, charity, and yarn bombing. The mission is to celebrate the art and beauty of hand knitting and crocheting, building community, generating positive interest in a location, and sharing with others.  Scarves are draped on trees, bridge walkways, signs, and other public locations. Each one includes a hang tag inviting anyone to claim ownership of the scarf.  We will meet in Centennial Park at 10 am outside of the Parthenon.

There is a parking lot next to the building on the side away from West End Ave.  Additionally there will be a couple of other locations for those who are not close to the park.

will be at the Inglewood library at 11 am and the Donelson library at 12 noon for anyone who wants to pick up scarves to donate.  PLEASE let me know if you plan to come to any of these locations!  kandctn@gmail.com

NASHVILLE PERIOD PROJECT
Lakisha L. Simmons, PhD
Creator, Nashville Period Project

Lakisha created The Nashville Period Project because girls in Davidson and Williamson counties were struggling to stay in school since they can’t afford fem-care products.  Lakisha spoke at The Big Stitch and explained the need.  If you’d like to donate products, the Metro Nashville Public Schools warehouse has two pallets worth of space for donations on an ongoing basis. The warehouse hours are M-F from 7am-3pm for accepting donations from the general public. The warehouse is located near the 100 Oaks area at: 2941 Foster Creighton Drive Nashville, TN 37204. Lakisha is launching The Green Period, an initiative to educate women and girls on reusable menstruation products. It will be more sustainable than the disposables, especially for girls in need. You can learn more about that and her personal development workbook, The Unlikely AchieveHer at  theachieveHer.com
NOTE:  We will be collecting feminine hygiene products at every Big Stitch in 2019!
