WORLD WIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC – June 18

World Wide Knit in Public – Crochet Too! (WWKIP) will be held June 18.

What is WWKIP? It is a time where knitters and crocheters get together to do their craft IN PUBLIC all over the world! In previous years we have been scattered around various Panera Bread locations. This year we will be in three locations: Cool Springs Mall, Rivergate Mall, Opry Mills and Green Hills Mall. We will meet from 10 am – 12 noon in the food court area at each mall. HOSTS ARE NEEDED to put up a table sign and have a sign in area. All we do is visit and knit or crochet! What a GREAT way to spend a hot June morning! If you are willing to host or have any questions, email kandctn@gmail.com. UPDATE: WE ONLY NEED A HOST FOR GREEN HILLS. AND — we will have a great door prize at each location!

Alzheimer’s Association Awareness Month

An employee of the Alzheimer’s Association approached the IHOP knit and crochet group in Antioch a few weeks ago and asked if they would participate in their awareness month. Barb Belden passed the information along to me. After speaking with the association, we determined the best way to support their efforts is by wearing purple and knitting and crocheting with purple yarn during WWKIP and also the week following in our groups. Please note that this is strictly voluntary. I will send any additional information that I receive out to anyone who is interested in case your group is approached. Here is what I have so far:

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and the Alzheimer’s Association® needs your help to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and over 15 million are serving as their caregivers. On average, family caregivers spend $5,000 per year caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. For some families this means missing a vacation, but for others, it may mean going hungry. Alzheimer’s is destroying our finances and our futures- but there is something you can do to help.

We personally invite you all to join us in raising awareness and concern about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.

* Join us on Monday, June 20 – the longest day of the year and a special day of action for the Alzheimer’s community. The Longest Day®, is an event to honor those facing the disease and their caregivers.

* Wear purple and knit or crochet with purple thread – a simple, no-cost way to support the cause.

Together, we can meet the challenge of supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s.

I have registered Knit and Crochet Tennessee as a group so we will receive information. If you’d like to learn more and sign up, go to alz.org/thelongestday.
