CHASE THE CHILL – SATURDAY, JANUARY 26
NEW DATE!
Chase The Chill

Chase The Chill is an annual graffiti/yarn bombing event that distributes handmade scarves in public places so that those in need -regardless of income and without any qualifiers -can help themselves. Founded in 2008 in Easton, PA, Chase the Chill combines art, charity, and yarn bombing. The mission is to celebrate the art and beauty of hand knitting and crocheting, building community, generating positive interest in a location, and sharing with others.  Scarves are draped on trees, bridge walkways, signs, and other public locations. Each one includes a hang tag inviting anyone to claim ownership of the scarf.  We will meet in Centennial Park at 10 am outside of the Parthenon.

There is a parking lot next to the building on the side away from West End Ave.  Additionally there will be a couple of other locations for those who are not close to the park.

will be at the Inglewood library at 11 am and the Donelson library at 12 noon for anyone who wants to pick up scarves to donate.  PLEASE let me know if you plan to come to any of these locations!  kandctn@gmail.com

NASHVILLE PERIOD PROJECT
Lakisha L. Simmons, PhD
Creator, Nashville Period Project

Lakisha created The Nashville Period Project because girls in Davidson and Williamson counties were struggling to stay in school since they can’t afford fem-care products.  Lakisha spoke at The Big Stitch and explained the need.  If you’d like to donate products, the Metro Nashville Public Schools warehouse has two pallets worth of space for donations on an ongoing basis. The warehouse hours are M-F from 7am-3pm for accepting donations from the general public. The warehouse is located near the 100 Oaks area at: 2941 Foster Creighton Drive Nashville, TN 37204. Lakisha is launching The Green Period, an initiative to educate women and girls on reusable menstruation products. It will be more sustainable than the disposables, especially for girls in need. You can learn more about that and her personal development workbook, The Unlikely AchieveHer at  theachieveHer.com
NOTE:  We will be collecting feminine hygiene products at every Big Stitch in 2019!

Dear Friends –

Super day this past Saturday.  I can’t believe how smoothly everything ran at our new location!  Over 150 of us knittedcrocheted, donated, took classes, shopped, shared and chatted – one of our largest attended Big Stitch!  And as always we are thinking of ways to make the April event even better!  Thanks for YOUR support of Knit and Crochet Tennessee!!

I’m still processing all of the donations we received last weekend.  I’ll have a total of all donations made in 2018 as well as our grand total since we began in the newsletter next week.
